Sony HDR-HC5 Handycam Sample Video

This is sample video footage from a Sony HDR-HC5 High Definition Handycam Camcorder which has a list price of $1,099.99. This video was encoded with Sony Vegas 7 with best video rendering quality, 30 fps, 2mbps bit rate. I wonder… for sites like YouTube does it really matter if you use an HD camcorder? From this example the quality doesn’t seem to look that much better than this lower priced Panasonic PV-GS300.

Most online video sites take the quality down to like 700kbps or less, frame rate to about 15 and resolution to 320×240 (although some use slightly larger) so cameras around this mark are just overkill.

However, making DVD’s (weddings, events etc) like for a side business, these would definatelt be sweet!

We recently had a national Kickboxing tounament, most of the cameras used were cheapo mini-DV cameras all with RRP of around £200 (~$380) and we had to knock the quality, resoultion, and framerate down to get the footage online.
